Our summer internship program immerses each intern in an interactive, project-based work environment. Over the span of three months, interns will participate in an in-depth orientation week, facility tours, Leadership Speaker Series Q&A panel, community service activities, baseball games, and beach bashes—all crafted to invest in our interns’ personal and professional development. R&D Intern (Access)

The R&D Intern (Access) will assist in supporting development of medical device products through project work focused on verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes, equipment and helping to ensure the concepts and/or prototypes meet their requirements. Typical job duties might include:
  • R&D engineering project involvement.
    • Neurovascular catheters and/or guidewires
  • Engineering design and process development.
  • Capable of meeting project goals with moderate supervision.
  • Develop and validate new equipment
  • Automating processes
  • Product testing and test method development
  • Creating or revising engineering documentation such as procedures, CAD drawings, protocols, or reports.

Job Details

    1. Working toward a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or other related discipline.
    2. Creative, inquisitive and demonstrates a strong desire to “build” and “create” (i.e. robotics, mechanical repair, construction).
    3. Knowledge of SolidWorks or PRO/E
    4. Demonstrated experience reading & preparing technical documentation.
    5. Computer experience and skills including MS Word, Excel and CAD.
    6. Machining experiences a plus.

    Desired Qualifications
    1. Strong analytical capability and organization skills.
    2. Coursework in 2-D/3-D drawings
    3. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and autonomously.
    4. Knowledge of medical device materials and processes: adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser-welding, laser-cutting, braiding, and lamination.
    5. Knowledge of machine shop tooling. Able to use equipment to machine R&D prototype equipment.
