Position Overview

The R&D Intern will assist in supporting development of medical device products through project work focused on developing new equipment, test models and test methods for verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes, equipment and helping to ensure the concepts and/or prototypes meet their requirements. Typical job duties might include:

  • R&D engineering project involvement.
  • Develops new test models and test methods applying bioengineeringprinciples.
  • Performs product and equipmenttesting.
  • Capable of meeting project goals with moderate supervision.
  • Perform data analysis and prepares testreports.
  • Performs research through literature search, design of experiments, and combination of computational and experimentalstudies.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities asassigned.
  • Required Qualifications

    • Working toward a Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or other related discipline.
    • Creative, inquisitive and demonstrates a strong desire to build andcreate.
    • Demonstrated experience with medical image-based modeling, 3D image segmentation, medical imageprocessing.
    • Demonstrated experience handling and working with medical image data from CT, MRI, ultrasound, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience reading & preparing scientific and technical documentation.
    • Exposure and or/Knowledge of 3D CAD programs (SolidWorks or PRO/E)
    • Computer experience and skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Machining experiences a plus.

    Desired Qualifications
    • Strong analytical capability and organization skills.
    • Strong understanding of cerebrovascular anatomy, physiology, cerebrovascular pathologies, and hemodynamics
    • Familiarity and prior experience researching endovascular medicaldevices.
    • Strong skills in adapting to technical software including SolidWorks (proficiency required), medical image processing commercial and open-source software programs, ImageJ, Minitab (or other statistical software)
    • Coursework in mechanical design (2D/3D CAD), Fluid mechanics, Biomechanics
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and autonomously.
    • Knowledge of medical device materials and processes: adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser-welding, laser-cutting, braiding, and lamination.
    • Knowledge of machine shop tooling. Able to use equipment to machine R&D prototype equipment.

    Additional Information
    • The primary work location for this position is Aliso Viejo, CA (company headquarters).
    • Relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
