Position Overview

This position will lead efforts in creation and development of new tooling, equipment and fixtures for R&D of medical device products and mfg. processes. This position will provide mechanical design concepts for automated and semi-automatic equipment and machinery aimed at improving mfg. productivity, capability, and quality. Will proactively work on projects to carry design concepts through to production release and implementation. Prepares advanced assembly and detailed component drawings to coordinate prototype parts procurement and builds. Job duties:
  • Provide mechanical design concepts for new equipment and fixturing to improve mfg. process capability, capacity, efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Works closely with machine shops and other fabricators to procure fabrication of prototype components and assemblies.
  • Works with lead project engineer to ensure mechanical design feasibility and takes lead in resolving mechanical design challenges during proto, pilot and mass production stages of project.
  • Assemble/fabricate/wire prototype equipment and machinery as necessary to develop design concepts through production implementation.
  • Documents all tool, fixture and equipment designs (i.e. spare parts, calibration requirements, preventive maintenance as part of design package).
  • Interfaces with R&D and Mfg. departments to solve production process problems.
    1. B.S. Mechanical Engineering.
    2. Must have ten (10+) years’ experience with complex mechanical design of mfg. equipment and machinery; direct experience with medical device mfg. preferred.
    3. Demonstrated expertise with advanced mechanical design methods using Solidworks.
    4. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
    5. Must have experience with conventional machining equipment such as lathe and vertical milling machines.
    Desired Qualifications
    1. Ability to prepare technical documentation, including advanced CAD modeling and engineering drawings
    2. Demonstrated expertise and accomplishments related to complex mechanical design of mfg. equipment, machinery, fixturing, and tooling
    3. Mastered proficiency in mechanical design with SolidWorks
    4. Versed in conventional and CNC machining processes
    5. Demonstrated machine building skills.
    6. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, be well-organized, ability to work in a fast-paced self-directed environment
