Position Overview

Scientist I
Under guidance and supervision, evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances in order to investigate their applications to the medical device industry.
  • Primary work location is in the R&D chemistry laboratory. Secondary work location is in an office environment.
  • Handles chemicals safely in accordance with approved processes and procedures.
  • Performs laboratory tasks under direct supervision.
  • Performs chemical reactions, including polymerization, coupling, derivatization, and digestion.
  • Performs chemical processes, including dissolution, extraction, precipitation, and filtration.
  • Able to utilize general laboratory equipment independently.
  • Performs analytical testing using established methods in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma – mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
  • Perform simulated use, in vitro testing to determine performance of current, competitive, and proposed products.
  • Performs analysis of lab and analytical results to summarize, report and make conclusions.
  • Writes internal documentation, including test methods and procedures.
  • Disposes of waste chemicals and materials following approved safety processes and procedures.

Scientist II
Under general guidance, performing broader range of tasks with increased productivity, evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances in order to investigate their applications to the medical device industry. Job duties:
  • Primary work location is in the R&D chemistry laboratory. Secondary work location is in an office environment.
  • Handles chemicals safely in accordance with approved processes and procedures.
  • Performs laboratory tasks under partial self-direction. Reduced supervision.
  • Performs chemical reactions, including polymerization, coupling, derivatization, and digestion.
  • Performs chemical processes, including dissolution, extraction, precipitation, and filtration.
  • Able to utilize general laboratory equipment independently.
  • Performs analytical testing using established methods in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma – mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

  • Qualifications Scientist I
    1. Good written and verbal communication skills.
    2. Medical device industry experience preferred.
    3. Computer skills including Excel and Word.
    4. Works with close guidance and supervision.
    Qualifications Scientist II
    1. Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry required

    2. 2-5 years of experience
    3. Medical device industry experience preferred
